What about you?
What about you?
An Education Role Play Book For Reception to Year Three Students.
What about you? is an exciting, colourful and educational children’s book that focuses on different behaviours that resemble ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) qualities. Each character presents a unique ASD quality. The story line and role play elements work together to subtlety introducing aspects of theory of mind. Designed as an entire class activity, the book involves an open discussion of individuality and role play allowing the students to take on another perspective. Prior to the book, the students are to select one character mask which they decorate, eventually grouping them for the book activities.
This teacher’s guide is useful when reading the book as it contains a wealth of information about the topics the book focuses on, as well as more questions and directions to steer discussion when reflecting on the scenarios proposed in the storyline.
Teachers will use the guide whilst reading the book to the class to help them direct discussion if they feel that there could be more exploration of the idea being proposed by the scenario in the book.
Provided are also the templates for the masks. Teachers can photocopy these to hand out to the class, where they will be encouraged to colour and decorate them.
